Exciting whitewater thrills on the Bow River! A half-day whitewater tour that offers adventure-lovers rafting thrills and excitement, all close to Banff, Canmore and Calgary. The Horseshoe Canyon section offers spectacular scenery, big waves and up to Grade IV whitewater. Experience a sense of remoteness while you raft your way through shale canyons and awesome whitewater. Cliff jumping is also available for the adventure enthusiast!

What you can expect

Tour departs at 8:15 am from Nakoda Lakeside Lodge. Arrive early to get the paper work out of the way - Sign release/waiver prior to the trip. Trained guides explain and demonstrate paddle, safety and emergency techniques.

Kick off into grade 2 through 4 rapids. Expect to get wet and lots of laughter. There will be an optional cliff jump for the adventure enthusiast during the float section.

Light refreshment and snacks after the tour as the tour ends at 12:00 pm

Notes

  • Chinook definition Class 3 - "You will get wet!” Large, continuous series or sets of waves, some in excess of 6 feet
  • Chinook definition Class 4 - "You’ll get soaked . . . like a 9 or 10 on the ‘fun scale’!” Large obstructions need to be avoided in what are referred to as “must moves.” Very difficult and scouting is required
  • Lakeside Riverbase contains a changing tent and ample free parking

Driving directions

  • Travel east on Highway #1 (Trans Canada Highway) towards Calgary
  • Exit onto ‘South Ranch Road (Exit 114 Seebe/Exshaw Hwy 1X)
  • Then turn left (north) towards Seebe/Exshaw & Hwy 1A
  • Drive 3 km north on Hwy 1X and then turn right (east) on the 1A Highway towards Cochrane / Calgary
  • Nakoda Lakeside Lodge is located 6 km from the turnoff on the right hand side

  • Minimum Age: 12 years
  • Minimum Weight: 90 lbs
  • Maximum Weight:350 lbs
  • Any guest under 18 years of age will also need a Parent / Guardian signature on the waiver form and an Emergency Contact Number if the Parent / Guardian is not joining them on the river
  • If the guest is unaccompanied by an adult the minimum age is 16 years old, but the parent must be at Nakoda Lakeside Lodge to sign the waiver
  • A release/waiver must be signed prior to the trip and is a condition of participation

Cancellation / Refund

  • 48 hour cancellation policy for individual bookings.
  • 7 days for groups of 9 or more.
  • Chinook Rafting reserves the right to cancel any trips due to adverse water, weather and related conditions or insufficient bookings; a full refund will be made available in this event.
