This fun and relaxed day at the rock pitch is designed for beginners and first time rock climbers. You will learn basic safety and top rope techniques for climbing outdoors and you will be coached on basic rock climbing movement skills. Families and beginners are welcome.

What you can expect

Meeting place will be arranged at time of booking.

There are several great and scenic rock climbing instruction areas that can be readily accessed for daily lessons, they include:

Banff Rundle Rock: Next to the Banff Springs Golf Course. A great spot for first time rock climbers, especially younger children.

Zygote Crag: 20 minute drive from Canmore. Good beginner location with some challenging short climbs to finish on. (5.6-5.10)

Yamnuska Bluffs: 20 minutes drive from Canmore. Excellent beginner location.

Wasootch Creek: 40 minute drive from Canmore. Good variety of climbs, due to driving times this location is more suitable for full-day programs. Top rope and sport climbing venue.

Heart Creek: 15 minutes drive from Canmore. Best suited for intermediate or advanced climbers.

  • Minimum guest age is 4
  • All participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult

Cancellation / Refund

  • 48-hour cancellation notice required for all full and half day rock climbing programs, after the trip has been confirmed
  • Mountain weather is unpredictable in all seasons and is a constant factor that shapes the decisions made before and during the programs. It would not be practical to refund or credit situations where guests do not get the weather conditions they hope for but every effort is made to develop alternative plans. If you have a single objective in mind (such as a peak or route) it is not guaranteed that the conditions or weather will allow an attempt of that objective. Guides will work diligently to give you the best experience with the given conditions at the time of your tour
